I have been listening to the debate about the 'torture' of Binyam Mohammed.

We all know that torture is wrong, but could it ever be justified to achieve greater ends?

For instance putting a terrorist in shackles and depriving him sleep would seem a small price to pay to prevent your nearest and dearest from being bombed to bits in a bus or tube train.

......or we could follow the lead of the Spanish Inquisition.
